The 2nd annual wannaGOFAST Texas 1/2 Mile kicks on this week-end on Saturday, November 12 in Sulphur Springs, Texas.  Sewell Cadillac is a "Double Platinum" sponsor and representatives of the Cadillac Racing Team will also be in attendance at the event.  Johnny O'Connell and Michael Cooper will both be onsite showing support for members of the V-Club who are competing and they will be available for autographs.

There will be 42 V-Series vehicles competing in the two day event hosted by Blake Hutchinson of wannaGOFAST.   Blake founded wannaGOFAST in 2012 in order to fill a niche in the motorsports marketplace.  His goal is to create a safe and controlled environment for fellow car enthusiasts to pursue their “Need For Speed” without the restrictions of the standard 1/8 or 1/4 mile drag strip. Competitors are able to see what it’s like to hit speeds they have only dreamed of without the risk of law enforcement or causing injury to others, while being surrounded by on-site safety personnel.

This is the 3rd wannaGOFAST event in Texas and the 2nd at the Sulphur Springs airport.   The current 1/2 Mile record for a V-Series vehicle was set in 2015 by Kurt Decker at 182.3 MPH in his 1,000+ WHP nitrous fed CTS-V sedan.  There will be several 1,000+ WHP V's competing for the Top Gun award this week-end and no doubt the current record will be reset.

For more details on this event, visit our event calendar.

Founded in 2013, in just 3 years the V-Club has reached the 300th member milestone and continues to grow and increase V-Series awareness for Cadillac and our title sponsor the Sewell family of Cadillac dealerships.  Launched with only 8 "charter" members, the V-Club now has 3 Chapters:  Dallas/Fort Worth (146 members), Houston (98 members) and Austin/San Antonio (51 members).  Affiliate Membership includes 5 members.

58 have been active members in the V-Club since 2013 and although there has been some natural attrition due to members selling their V's or moving to another state, with the launch of the new Gen-3 ATS-V and CTS-V, membership continues to increase.   The V-Club membership includes a wide variation of vehicles from Gen 1 through Gen 3 some of which are factory OEM stock while others are "mild to wildly" modified.

Our Affiliate members do not reside physically in Texas but have committed to support the V-Club and are recognized as a valuable extension of our V-Series family.   Last but certainly not least, membership includes our sponsors who are key supporters of the V-Club.   The products, services and support they have provided to our members has been outstanding and is certainly much appreciated!

FORT WORTH, Texas (July 6, 2015) – Fireworks were not relegated to the sky above Texas Motor Speedway this past Friday evening during Week 3 of Friday Night Drags presented by Snap-On Racing.

More than 200 competitors were joined by nearly 5,000 fans – with more than 800 military and law enforcement officers on hand – as part of DSG Arms Law Enforcement and Military Appreciation Night in an evening that featured intense racing as well as a fireworks display.

After rain washed out Week 2 of Friday Night Drags, racers returned to action to compete on Texas Motor Speedway’s 1/8-mile drag strip. A trio of drivers extended their winning streaks and in the process allowed them to take commanding leads each of their division point standings. Sportsman Division’s Brock Anders, of Keller, (1966 Chevrolet Nova), AWD Tuning All-Wheel Drive Division’s Abel Narezo, of Fort Worth, (2015 Nissan GTR) and DSG Arms Black Smoke Warrior Division’s Eric Cothrum, of Sunnyvale, (2006 Dodge 2500) were all victorious.

Other Week 3 winners included Aledo’s Chase Prollock (2013 Scion FRS) in the Tuner Division, Longview’s Brock Gilliam (1957 Volkswagen Bug) in the Street Bandit Division.  In the SNL Performance Supercar DivisionArlington’s Wes Coleman (2013 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon) was victorious against Highland Village's Sean O'Rourke (2011 CTS-V Coupe) in a "Texas V-Club member" finals for the 2nd time this season. There were over 30 entries in the Supercar Division.  Fort Worth’s Pat Gloner (2000 Pontiac Trans Am) was victorious in the B&G Mufflers Street Outlaw Division.

With their wins, Prollock, Gilliam and Coleman are tied for the lead in their respective divisions. Gloner, who missed the opening week of Friday Night Drags, is tied for second in the Outlaw standings.

Each week racers battle for points as part of the six-week summer series. At the conclusion of the season, the racers in each division with the most points accumulated will be crowned the champion and receive a six-drawer, 40-inch Snap-On roll cart. Racing continues Friday for Week 4 of Friday Night Drags presented by Snap-On Racing. Gates open at 6 p.m. CT with inspection, practice and the Hills Air Support Show-N-Shine beginning at 6:15 p.m. Drag racing competition gets underway at 9 p.m.

FORT WORTH, Texas (June 22, 2015) – Texas Motor Speedway opened its seventh season of Friday Night Drags presented by Snap-On Racing this past week with an impressive showing as more than 200 competitors turned out to race their personal vehicles down the speedway’s converted 1/8-mile drag strip.

Competitors from across North Texas joined in the thrill of going head-to-head with fellow car enthusiasts for the chance to earn bragging rights during the first week of the six-week summer amateur racing series that takes place on the pit lane of the 1.5-mile superspeedway.

This year marked the debut of a seventh division with the addition of the AWD Tuning All-Wheel Drive class. Fort Worth’s Abel Narezo and his 2015 Nissan GTR edged out Chris Brown, of Lucas, in his 2014 Nissan GTR to become the division’s inaugural winner.

Also on display were prized vehicles from both the past and present as part of the Hills Air Support Show-N-Shine competition. Each week Texas Motor Speedway will select the top entries that will earn awards in four categories – Best of Show, Best Classic-1972 or earlier, Best Current Custom-1973 to current, Best Motorcycle.

Taking home the top honors from among the 200 overall entrants included Fort Worth’s Sam Soutsvahth and his 2000 Plymouth Prowler earning Best in Show. We had 25 drivers compete in the 1st V-Racing Shootout at Texas Motorplex sponsored by SNL Performance and Sewell Performance Group.  The final single elimination bracket race of the day was between Dustin Callaway and Bo Clifton.   What a great race.... very evenly matched!

There were over 50 spectators who attended and a great time was had by all.   All drivers, V-Club members and their guests were treated to some outstanding pizza catered by Tracy's wood fire grill food truck.

Thanks to Clint Wallace and theTexas Motorplex for hosting this event. The track prep was perfect and there were no "traction" complaints.

Hopefully we can make this an annual event and get more of our members from Houston, Austin and San Antonio to particiate next time.  Congratulations to Bo Clifton who will receive an award plaque and a free 1 year membership in the Texas V-Club.
