    South Texas Airstrip Attack

    By Caroline Huang

We are excited to announce we will be offering Helicopter Rides over the airport during the event so you can see the cars from the air as they race down the airstrips.

We have Go Karting available for kids and adults who want to feel some speed during the fun of the weekend.

We have an amazing Vedor Market Place with over 20 vendors from the local area. Come and support their booths and don’t forget to grab some local yummy snacks from the food area!

We are happy to announce H town automotive and performance, based out of Hondo, are sponsoring Airstrip Attack as a platinum sponsor. Its always great to see support from the local community and H Town are doing just that! Check out their facebook page for up to date information on whats happening in their shop.

ProSpeed Autosports are joining us as platinum sponsors, we are very excited to see what they bring to the airstrip as they have a long history of making crazy fast cars. They offer dyno services, motorsport electronics, fabrication and manufacturing for all things racing related. They will be coming all the way from Houston to Hondo with an impressive array of cars.

Driver Spot Light: Jessika James and her family will be coming out to the event. For those of you that came to Kansas airstrip attack know that Jessika is only 17 and drives a twin turbo 2015 Lamborghini Huracan that makes 1300hp. She picked up 2nd place for the AW class on Sunday in Kansas and shes now back, hungry to beat out the competition in Texas.

We are adding a motorcycle trophy class to this years South Texas Airstrip Attack, sponsored by BoomstuneHQ. We invite people to come out and register their bikes to compete against some of the fastest bikes in the country!

Partial reprint from Victoria Advocate Article

The sun was high and the track was hot Friday morning when Kurt Decker pulled up to the start line at the Texas Mile, full of nerves and adrenaline.

Less than a minute later, Kurt set a new world record.

“You always have your nerves when you start because you know you're pushing the limits,” Decker said, a few hours later. “I knew I was going fast because the speedometer stops at 200. I was looking for 210, but then they handed me the ticket and it said 212.”

Event organizers said Decker, 42, set the new Cadillac CTS-V blower-only half-mile record at 177.5 mph and full-mile record at 212 mph on Friday.

He is among many racers who enjoy pushing vehicles’ limits at the bi-annual Texas Mile event, held at Victoria Regional Airport.

Decker, who owns LSX Performance Dyno Tuning in Mission Valley and works as a chemical engineer for Dow Chemical Company, said he has been coming to the Texas Mile with his team members since 2004, including Patrick Guerra, who tunes cars at his shop.

The LSX Performance Dyno Tuning team is one of the few local teams that is at the Texas Mile this weekend, though Decker and Guerra have worked on many of the vehicles at the event.

Patrick Guerra, of Pat G Tuning in Victoria, custom calibrates the ECU perimeters on Bruce Warren’s 2011 Cadillac CTS-V before Warren makes a run at the Texas Mile. This is the second time Warren, of Traverse City, Mich., has participated in the top speed event held at the Victoria Regional Airport.

“We’ll typically have 15 to 20 vehicles at any Texas Mile that we’ve modified or tuned. For our little Victoria shop, we pull people from many states over,” Guerra said. “The camaraderie is awesome; we share business with each other. I am helping a guy today from Michigan, who came down and wanted me to give him a good tune.”

Guerra has developed a reputation for tuning cars over his years in Victoria. Currently, he said he tunes for 64 different shops across the country and sends them by computer to people around the world.

“It went from part-time work for me to full-time work and tuning just for Kurt’s shop to now tuning for 64 shops,” Guerra said.

Shannon Matus, co-owner and CEO of the Texas Mile, said the three-day event originally started out as a small get together with friends.

As the event has grown, Matus is glad to say that the competition has remained friendly.

“It isn’t like it is in drag-racing. It is competitive but you help one another, and it is very family-oriented,” Matus said.

On Saturday Kurt reset the CTS-V blower only 1/2 and 1 mile record.
    143.5 in 1/4, 178.6 in the 1/2 and 213.6mph at the mile.

The weather was almost perfect both Saturday and Sunday and there were over a thousand spectators on site at the event over the two-day wannaGOFAST Texas ½ Mile in Sulphur Springs, Texas.  Blake Hutchinson and his wannaGOFAST team did an outstanding job logistically and with the overall management of the event.
Our two top competitors for the week-end were V-Club member Brandon Barr who reset the 1/2 Mile world record for Cadillac V's with a pass of 185.18 mph and V-Club President Mike Franks who hit 183.97 mph.   Brandon had recently reset the Texas Mile record by hitting a trap speed of 216.2 in Beeville Texas in October.  Congratulations to both members for breaking last year's record of 182.3 mph set by V-Club member and sponsor Kurt Decker.
Overall, the event was very successful. Cadillac Racing from Detroit brought down their exhibition trailer which included a 2017 ATS-V and CTS-V and also Johnny O’Connell’s ATS-VR race car. Both Johnny O’Connell and Michael Cooper attended the event, signed autographs and joined the V-Club for dinner at Bodacious BBQ on Saturday evening along with 95 other V-Club members and guests.  The V-Club had 38 registered to compete in the event.
All wannaGOFAST event class winners are now listed on their website at via these two links:
